Frequently asked questions

How do I know which session to book first?

If you’re new, start with the free 15-minute introductory call. It’s a relaxed conversation to see if we’re a good fit — no commitment required. If you’re ready to dive in, book the Initial Counselling Session.

What happens after I book?

You’ll receive a confirmation email with a secure video call link and a short intake form to complete before we meet. That’s it — no paperwork, no waiting rooms.

What do I need for an online session?

A device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking. Headphones help with sound quality.

Are counselling sessions really confidential?

Yes. Everything shared in sessions is strictly confidential. The only exceptions are if there is risk of harm to you or someone else, or a legal requirement — these are explained fully in the intake form.

Can I have sessions in Russian?

Absolutely. Full sessions in Russian are available — just mention your preference when booking or in the intake form.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your session. Late cancellations (under 24 hours) incur a 50% fee. No-shows are charged the full session fee.

Is there a Medicare rebate?

I am not a Medicare provider. Bupa members may be eligible for a partial rebate — please check your policy. I provide receipts for all sessions.

What if I’m nervous about my first session?

That’s completely normal. The first session is just a conversation — there’s no agenda, no pressure, and no expectation to share more than you’re ready to. Start with the free 15-minute call if that feels easier.

Can I message you before booking?

Yes — use the WhatsApp button or email yana@yanacounselling.com.au with any questions before committing to a session.

What happens in the first session?

Your initial session is a gentle, structured conversation where we explore your concerns, history, and goals for therapy.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes, you can reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice.

What if I can’t find a suitable time?

Feel free to contact me directly and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

Are counselling sessions covered by Medicare or health insurance?

Counselling sessions with Yana Counselling are not Medicare-rebatable. However, Yana is a registered Bupa provider — you pay for your session directly, and you can claim a rebate through your private health insurance extras cover, depending on your policy. It’s a good idea to check your specific extras coverage with your provider before booking.
